A very insightful session on “Building careers in Product Management” was conducted on December 2nd, 2022 by Mr. Mahesh Ram, Product Manager at Honeywell. He is an alumnus of Amrita School of Engineering Coimbatore and IIM Kozhikode. The session started off by understanding what a product is, how to build a product and why one has to come out of the circle of inference to develop a product. He mentioned how a product manager set a vision for the product, evangelizes the vision, and takes action to execute that vision. A quick review of the product team and how they function in an organization was looked upon. The session then discussed on how a potential candidate can break into product management through internal transition within the company. Mr. Mahesh then mentioned a certain set of skills that were essential for a product manager. This included market insights, technical expertise, customer empathy, and many more. The format for recruiting a product manager and the resources which we can tap into for instilling deep knowledge about product management was also emphasized.
The session concluded with some fruitful interaction with the students followed by a question-answer session.
